The St. Augustine Youth Ministry.

Youth Ministry at St. Augustine targets youth in the 6th through 12th grades. To attract youth in a more responsible way the youth are divided into two groups – 6th through 8th grade and 9th through 12th grade. By doing this we can present programs that are more age appropriate.

Using the framework of Renewing the Vision as approved by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops in 1997, our Youth Ministry has 3 main goals for ministry with adolescents: 1) To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today, 2) To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community, and 3) To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.

We accomplish these goals by offering opportunities for the youth. A few examples include, at the high school level we have a program called Apostles and Pizza, which covers topics from scripture study to lives of saints and ordinary people to Catholic apologetics. These topics are selected after input from the youth and change from year to year. The junior high youth have a similar program called Saints and Sandwiches. Topics may be the same or different, but the information presented will be age appropriate. We attend conferences for the youth at both the Diocesan and National levels, so they can meet fellow Catholics in a similar age group and realize the struggles they are experiencing are not unique.
